BASSA is the trade union of British Airways’ cabin crew. SytemServe built a secure website for their 11,000 members to access. The site allows members to keep their address and contact details up to date, view the latest news from the union and discuss issues in an online forum.
Administrators of the website are able to send out email bulletins and SMS text alerts to their members to keep them abreast of urgent issues.
Members are geographically diverse, with 10% based overseas, and many members access the latest information whilst away from home, on long haul trips. The site was built to be fully accessible to members using Mobile Phones and PDAs.
With the website the chief vehicle for communication, BASSA are able to take online polls and co-ordinate plans for negotiation with British Airways’ management.
